Lowndes Grove is a former African-slave plantation. It is named for William Lowndes, a slave owner, son of a slave owner, and married to the daughter of a slave owner. The plantation house, perhaps with slave labor, was built by George Abbott Hall, a slave importer. His firm was one of the largest importers of slaves into America at one time. Today, privileged whites (and others) continue to enjoy their time at Lowndes Grove, without regard for all the misery suffered there by the African slaves who built that plantation. Enjoy your party!

Other well known plantation brides include Reese Witherspoon and Mrs. Justin Bieber. Haven’t heard any apologies from them yet.
